Rockin' Monkey Town

Decemberadio Just returned from a great concert in Dayton, Tn tonight. For 10 bucks we saw Bread of Stone, SuperHero, Nevertheless, and Decemberadio. These bands gave 4 really strong performances. Bread of Stone and SuperHero were pleasant surprises having never seen them or even heard their music both bands were very entertaining. I really liked SuperHero's song "Cool Police". Local favorite Nevertheless put on a good show as always with a couple of new songs in their set. I would agree with lead singer Josh Pearson that "Lover" is one of my favorite songs that the band performs. Decemberadio took the stage and absolutely rocked the house. I have been thinking of songs that I would like to see performed at Journey Chattanooga and Decemberadio had two of them in their set list tonight, "Love Found Me", and a cover of Lenny Kravitz's "Are You gonna Go My Way?". The set also included "Drifter", "Dangerous", "Least of These", a cover of David Crowder's "Here is our King" and one of the coolest arangements of "Amazing Grace" that I have ever heard! These guys are absolute rockers and also gave one of the clearest invitations to accept Christ that I have heard anywhere in a long time. I enjoyed this show so much that I may be taking a road trip to Calhoun GA, to hear them again on Nov 14. Big thanks to First Baptist of Dayton for stepping outside the box and hosting this concert!

Communicating Vision

Communicating Vision

Who knew communicating vision could be such a time consuming process? Mark and Robert lost me about 15 minutes ago so I thought I would post a picture of the creative process. Can you feel the intensity? Me neither. :)

The Church Has a Problem

Check out this post from Seth Godin

http://sethgodin.typepad.com/seths_blog/2005/06/marketing_has_a.html

Much of what he says would apply directly to the way the church tries to spread its message. There have been so many churches presenting a fake ingenuine Gospel that the world assumes that all messages from the church are the same and irrelevant to them as an individual so they simply ignore the message.

Ken Shattuck 1951-2007

Kens_monza_wet_3

I lost a fantastic friend this week. Ken Shattuck passed away quitely at his cabin in Townsend TN. Many of you may have not known Ken by name but most will recognize his bright yellow Monza that he took to all the car shows. I always took plenty of pictures of Ken's car knowing that it was constantly changing and evolving. This is a picture from New Years Day 2000. Funny thing is being a typical car guy I have lots of car pictures but none of them with Ken. I knew one day the car might be gone and I would want to remember it, unfortunately the car outlasted a great friend. In thinking of Ken I was reminded of something that I heard during this week's Church Planters Practicum. "A Christ follower is someone who lives as Christ lives, loves as Christ loves, and leaves behind what Christ left behind." Ken was one of the most loving and giving Christ followers I have ever known. He often gave beyond what he should have and always gave the benefit of the doubt when showing compassion towards others. I cant think of a better legacy for a follower of Christ to leave behind. I am so glad to have had Ken in my life and I am thankful that through our shared belief in Christ's sacrifice on the cross we will be reunited in Heaven one day.

If you want to share your thoughts about Ken be sure and leave a comment. If you would like to visit with Ken's family and friends visitation is Sunday from 2-4pm at Lane's Southcrest chapel in Rossville,GA. You can also enter condolences in the guest book here.

Lucifer is Loose at Revolution Church

Some of Gary's detractors have always said that Lucifer was having his way at Revolution and this video proves it. Be sure to listen to the staff scream like little girls!

Church Planters Practicum

It's been a while since I've blogged. I was on vacation and cut off from internet access for a week (which no matter what some people say really sucks; I did try and keep up with blog reading and email on my Treo) and then too busy blog when I returned.

This weekend Mark Love and I are in the ATL for a church planter's practicum. I've been to church 3 times in the past 24 hours at 3 very different churches. We've visited Mtn Lake Church, Revolution, and North Point's Buckhead campus. Shawn Lovejoy payed us to attend Mtn Lake, click here for details. Gary at Revolution didn't pay us so I swiped a pen from their information table.

Practicum at Mtn Lake starts tomorrow and I'm looking forward to hanging out with a bunch of my planting friends. Monday starts of with a 9:00 am Waffle House Breakfast with Chris Elrod and Kyle Bridges from Compass Point. Chris has some great pictures from the 3 services we all attended here.
