Thanksgiving Detox

Turkeycarcass736345 I kind of feel like the picture of the turkey on the left. I've had about all of the turkey, shopping, and Christmas decorating a person can stand. First of all turkey with all the trimmings is one of my least favorite meals and I've had it 3 times in less than a week. Secondly the after Thanksgiving sales have gotten ridiculous. When people arrive at Best Buy at 3am and the line is already hundreds of people long you know that the American consumer has gone crazy.  I stopped in the local Radio Shack to check out a new MP3 player this afternoon. They were out of them and the chipper salesman told me I should have been there at 5am Friday in order to get one at the fabulous $10 off price. Hmmm warm bed and 5 extra hours of sleep versus a ten dollar savings; sleep wins every time. I predict in the next few years that the "Black Friday" sales will start the Friday after Halloween and I predict I will sleep through them again.

Live from Knoxville

Live from Knoxville
This is the second concert in as many weeks for me. This week's line-up features Ruth, Relient K, and Switchfoot. This tour is entitled "Appetite for Construction" and some of the proceeds benefit Habitat for Humanity, one of Journey Chattanooga's favorite organizations. Be sure to come check out Journey and Habitat building a wall behind Northgate Mall this Saturday from noon till 2pm. Now back to the show! (If you look closely at the picture you can see snow falling from the air while Relient K plays "Sleigh Ride" from their new Christmas CD.)

The Golden Compass Unmasked?

The_golden_compass_poster I have received countless emails from well meaning friends concerning the upcoming movie The Golden Compass.

Here's a synopsis from Snopes : "a series that follows the adventures of a streetwise girl who travels through multiple worlds populated by witches, armor plated bears, and sinister ecclesiastical assassins to defeat the oppressive forces of a senile God. "

While I agree that the atheistic author may not have the best interest of our children at heart I must question the constant cry of boycott against anything that has a critical view of Christianity. It's almost as if Christians are afraid if people explore the facts for themselves that Christianity can't stand on its own. In case you Christians out there haven't noticed we don't serve a senile God using oppressive forces in a world of witches and armor plated bears.

We serve a living God and if we are carrying out our lives as followers of Christ  the world shouldn't have any trouble discerning the difference between fantasy and the reality of a loving God Who gives hope to mankind. Perhaps it isn't the author of the Golden Compass who should be faulted but it is the so called Christians who don't live out their Faith as they should.
